From Darkness to Hope

A New Journey of Life
ree

It was around 9pm. when a distress call came into the Shirdi Police Station. The voice on the other end trembled with worry before continuing:

“A young girl, who has been begging on the streets has just given birth to a baby. She seems to be mentally unstable.”

The moment this message reached our Snehankur team, they rushed to Shirdi without hesitation.

A Heartbreaking Scene

At the police station, what they saw was truly heart-wrenching. In a corner sat a young girl with her newborn baby, visibly disturbed and terrified. Beside her were her parents and uncle. Her father was physically disabled while her mother was mentally unstable, leaving the fragile girl and her child with no real support to lean on. When the staff gently asked her what had happened, she whispered her painful truth:

“I was begging with my family at a railway station. A man, who used to wave the railway flag, kept abusing me. I became pregnant because of him. After, we came to Shirdi and continued to beg for survival.”

Her words left everyone shaken. Silence filled the room, heavy with pain and helplessness.

Rescue & Protection

With the help of the police, our Snehankur team immediately moved the girl and her newborn baby to Ahilyanagar (formerly Ahmednagar ) to present the girl and her child before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

The girl’s family, unable to take responsibility, abandoned the baby - opening the door to legal protection for the infant. Very soon, the process of adoption began, ensuring that the child would have a safe home and a bright future.

A Lesson for All of Us

That night reflected three realities of our society:

  • The silent suffering of a helpless girl

  • The tragedy of an innocent newborn

  • And the responsibility we, as a community, must carry

This story is not just about despair, but also about hope. It shows us that with compassion, quick action, and the right support systems, a life can be saved from the clutches of darkness and given a chance to bloom.

Every child deserves safety, dignity, and love. And it is our collective duty to ensure that no child is denied their right to a happy life.
