Meet Aishwarya Joshi, a construction architect based in UAE and social entrepreneur working with us since she visited our projects in Ahmednagar in 2019. She is the founder of The Lighthouse Cohort (TLC), a Dubai-based enterprise that aims to deliver solutions for the world’s most pressing needs around global peace, education, healthcare and livelihood via project design and strategic partnerships across Middle East, Asia and Africa. Through TLC’s pro bono services, Aishwarya has been supporting our education projects in a range of innovative and effective ways.
She has been instrumental in consistently mobilizing funding and connecting effective volunteers through TLC’s network. In the last two years she has connected many like-minded people who have raised funds through fundraises as well as individual contributions. Her project cohort for re-imagining education for educators during Covid-19 really helped our teachers adapt to online teaching for the benefit of many in rural and urban areas.
TLC volunteers are also giving their time to help make math simple, fun, and easily doable for 230 children who attend bi-weekly online classes at our Balbhavan slum centers and English medium school. Smart buddy is another unique educational initiative for our teenage girls. The primary objective is to, ‘learn to live a life of dignity responsibility and purpose through the channels of friendship across borders’. This involves hand-picked Snehalaya girls individually paired with a Dubai-based university student to discuss and overcome their educational apprehensions and career dilemmas through one-to-one online calls and mentoring. The girls are also supported by Dubai based movement therapists, mentors and brain profiling experts across a three-month program. TLC’s thought process is that with the right intervention at the right place and time we can move together as a community to ensure nobody is left behind.
