Our Rehab Center children were invited to celebrate International Nurses Day at Vikhe Patil Nursing College. Our first stop was the college’s program where nursing students performed entertaining and informative skits, dances and speeches highlighting the important contributions nurses make to society. As one of the speakers said: “Doctors may be the brains but nurses are the heart of medicine and the body cannot function without a heart!”.
Our children, many of whom aspire to work in medicine, were then given a tour of the college facilities which include teaching wards covering maternity and pre- and post-natal care, nutrition, community heath, mental health and many other areas. They were fascinated by the displays and gained a much greater understanding of the different roles nurses play. They were also able to interact with staff and students and ask their burning questions.
The college gave our children the full VIP treatment also providing snacks and cold drinks which were much appreciated. We signed a partnership agreement with the college earlier this year which sees their students conducting visits and placements to our projects, including our hospital. This partnership also means our children can continue to conduct exposure visits to the college to better understand what a future in nursing may look like.
