Love Beyond Advice

A New Home of Hope at Snehalaya
“More than knowledge or advice, the marginalized need the touch of love and a sense of belonging. Selfless love is the true source of their strength and motivation.”

These powerful words were shared by social worker Girish Thakur from the Netherlands, reflecting on Snehalaya’s journey of compassionate service.

This belief came alive during the inauguration of two newly constructed residential buildings at Snehalaya — Karmayogini Sadhanatai Bhavan and Mahamanav Baba Amte Bhavan. Built for individuals from marginalized communities, these spaces stand as symbols of dignity, care, and collective responsibility.

The buildings were made possible through the generous support of the Netherlands-based organization “Aadhar For You,” founded by Vrinda and Girish Thakur, whose commitment to human dignity continues to inspire meaningful change. Several respected community leaders, senior government officials, and long-time supporters joined the ceremony, sharing in the joy of this important milestone.

Speaking at the event, Girish Thakur highlighted a deeply overlooked reality — that the challenges faced by children in care institutions become even more serious after the age of 18. This is especially true for young people living with HIV or disabilities, who often continue to face stigma and exclusion even after leaving institutional care.

In response to this gap, Snehalaya, with strong community participation, has developed a 15,000 sq. ft. fully equipped residential complex to support young adults above 18 years of age, along with dedicated caregivers. This space is designed not just as accommodation, but as a center for transformation, helping residents move toward independent and dignified lives.

Officials present at the event shared that while they had long heard about Snehalaya’s work, witnessing it firsthand revealed the true depth and scale of its impact.

Snehalaya’s President Jaya Jogdand reflected on the organization’s philosophy of empowerment, noting how former students and beneficiaries are now leading and guiding the institution — a rare and powerful example of sustainable social change.

The program concluded on a moving note with Snehalaya student Sakshi Narwade presenting inspiring songs associated with Baba Amte, reminding everyone that progress never pauses and compassion must always move forward.

These new buildings are more than structures of brick and cement — they are homes of hope, built on love, trust, and the belief that every individual deserves dignity, care, and a future filled with possibility.
