Resuming Night Patrols

Night Has Passed But Humanity Does Not Sleep
ree

Our former Childline project was recognised as the number one in the country thanks in part to the nightly patrols we conducted in areas where runaways could be found. Since Childline has returned to the government management these vital nighlines has ceased. We are really happy to report that our Mukti Vahini project is plugging this gap with its first night patrol taking place on the night of June 21. Snehalaya is committed to ensuring children's safety and uplholding of their rights. If there is someone waiting to shed light on those lost in darkness, it is Snehalaya, which continues to exemplify social awareness and compassion for children in distress.

The patrol started at our railway station, with an inauguration by Railway Security Inspector, Vikesh Made. We are pleased that alongside him were the police administration who actively participated with our team visiting locations including the railway station, bus stands, Mahatma Gandhi Maidan, public parking lots and other vulnerable areas.

During the patrol, a 16-year-old girl was found alone at Maliwada bus stand. She was immediately taken to the police station and our Child Welfare Committee was informed and, after a medical examination, they ensured that a safe stay at our government child shelter home was made.

The patrol saw the renewed involvement of experienced, long-term volunteers who had previously partnered with our Childline team. Police officers, rickshaw drivers, hotel and lodging owners, tea vendors, shopkeepers, parking staff and security guards showed their humanity and enthusiasm in once again engaging with our team to protect children. We rely heavily on them to alert us and the relevant authorities should they notice children in distress in their areas.

Another success of this initiative was raising community awareness about the safety of women and girls. Some young girls also expressed the need for services like ‘Mukti Vahini’ for their own safety. This night’s patrol was not just about rescuing a single girl; it rekindled a broader societal consciousness.

Our Mukti Vahini is not just a toll-free helpline but a vigilant and sensitive service operating 24/7 for every child in crisis. Through this system, immediate medical aid, legal advice, counseling, safe shelter and rehabilitation are made available.

If you find a child in distress, abandoned or scared, please contact our Mukti Vahini helpline on 9011098008 / 9011026495.

Let humanity be awake, always ready to help those in need.
