Congratulations to our former Rehab Center and Snehadhar resident, Karishma who recently started her new job at a hotel in Shirdi. She secured the job after completing a six month, Snehalaya-sponsored hotel management course in Kamargaon. There she learnt skills in housekeeping, food orders, interior design and room arrangements.
Although she was a little daunted being thrown in right at the deep end on her first day, she is loving her new role where she is honing her skills working across the hotels services including room and restaurant service. She especially loves serving guests, speaking to them about the Chinese and Indian dishes on the menu and taking their orders. She admits sometimes she does have to manage difficult customers, but she takes it in her stride and generally mostly really enjoys the experience of meeting people from all over India making pilgrimage to the popular pilgrimage site.
She describes the hotel rooms as beautiful and the restaurants are large, impressive and busy. It also hosts weddings and while Karishma hasn’t worked one yet she loves seeing the preparations, decorations and guests enjoying the events.
The 20 year old grew up at Snehalaya after her father died when she was in 4th standard. Although it was scary to leave our care she made good friends during her college course and she is also settling in very well in her residential role at the hotel.
As she works split shifts to cover breakfast, lunch and dinner services she has the opportunity to visit Sai Baba’s temple on an almost daily basis. She is earning a good wage and has ambitions to move to work in larger hotel in a city in the future and we are sure she will be very successful.
