COLOMBIAN EXPERTISE

Snehalaya was delighted to welcome our first volunteer from Colombia, Professor Marcela Agudelo, a Psychology Professor at Externado University, Colombia. Marcela is a wonderful example of how volunteers can use their professional knowledge and experience to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our children.

During her visit, Marcela spent time at our Ramvadi Balbhavan, where she conducted a special drawing workshop with the children. What began as a fun and creative art session soon developed into a fascinating learning experience for teachers and parents alike.

Using the children's drawings, Marcela explained how psychologists can gain valuable insight into a child's emotional wellbeing, self-esteem, personality, and social adjustment. By observing elements such as colour choices, themes, line pressure, composition, and the use of space, she demonstrated how artwork can provide clues about a child's feelings and experiences, while emphasising that drawings should always be understood within the context of each child's individual circumstances.

The workshop opened a completely new perspective for those who work closely with the children. Teachers and parents were fascinated to discover how art can become a window into a child's inner world, helping adults better understand emotions that children may find difficult to express in words.

Marcela's visit was a powerful reminder of the value that international volunteers can bring by sharing their professional expertise. Her knowledge, warmth, and genuine compassion left a lasting impression on everyone who took part.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Marcela for her dedication and valuable contribution to Snehalaya. We wish her every success in the future and hope she will always remain part of the Snehalaya family.
