A Voice for the Community
Radio Nagar 90.4 FM Celebrates 15 Years of Community Voice and Connection
Radio Nagar 90.4 FM, a strong pillar of Ahilyanagar’s social, cultural, and people-centric communication landscape, proudly celebrated its 15th anniversary on Tuesday, 13 January, with great enthusiasm and warmth. Run by Snehalaya, the city’s first community radio station has, over the past decade and a half, become a powerful platform amplifying the voices of every section of society and nurturing meaningful public dialogue.
A Memorable Evening of Ideas, Art, and Celebration
The anniversary celebration was held at Sanjog Hotel and witnessed the presence of eminent personalities from the fields of media, literature, art, and social development. Distinguished guests included UK-based media expert John Coster, international voice artist Lorraine Hodgson, senior literary figure Madhav Manohar Joshi, Sakal co-editor Prakash Patil, MIDC Regional Manager Ganesh Rathod, and Snehalaya’s Founder Dr Girish Kulkarni, among others.
The evening reflected Radio Nagar’s journey of blending community engagement with creativity, social awareness, and inclusive storytelling.

Launch of Audio Books and New Publications
A major highlight of the event was the launch of the Marathi audiobook of Up Against Darkness, written by Medha Deshmukh-Bhaskaran, which captures Snehalaya’s inspiring 35-year journey. The Marathi translation, titled Fite Andharache Jaale, was completed by Sunanda Sadashiv Amrapurkar and published by Sakal Prakashan. The audiobook’s evocative narration by Reema Amrapurkar added depth and emotion to the storytelling.
Alongside this, the book, Yashasvi Hotana Maza Pravas, based on interviews of 25 entrepreneurs conducted by Sanjay Parnaik for Radio Nagar, was also released—celebrating journeys of entrepreneurship, resilience, and success.
Recognising Creativity & Community Participation
The program also included prize distribution for Radio Nagar’s popular initiatives such as the RJ Contest, Diwali Ank Competition, and Dr Arun Mande Story Writing Competition, encouraging creativity and community participation through radio.
Learning Before Celebration
Adding value to the anniversary celebrations, a special workshop for radio jockeys and media professionals was organised earlier the same day, creating a space for learning, skill-building, and exchange of ideas among community broadcasters.
Continuing the Legacy
Radio Nagar 90.4 FM’s 15-year journey stands as a testament to the power of community media—where stories from the grassroots find dignity, relevance, and reach. The celebrations were not just about looking back with pride, but also about reaffirming the station’s commitment to people-oriented broadcasting in the years ahead.
For those who missed the event, the edited highlights of the anniversary program were broadcast on Radio Nagar 90.4 FM on 15 January at 7:00 pm, allowing listeners across the city to be part of the celebration.
As Radio Nagar steps into its next chapter, it continues to remain a trusted voice of the people—connecting hearts, stories, and communities, one broadcast at a time.
