'Importance of Girls' Education' - Essay Competition

As part of our Students Stand #withMalala campaign, Malala Fund and Participant Media wanted to give girls a practical helping hand with continuing their education. So our Community Radio station, Radionagar 90.4 FM held an essay writing competition with scholarships prizes towards study costs for the winners.

Congratulations to our winner Anjun who has received prizes worth Rs9,000 to contribute towards her education costs when she starts college in July. Well done also to our Runners up who will each receive prizes worth Rs5,000:

  • Naina Bandopant Misal,
  • Swapnja Kishor Gadge
  • Shrimati Munna Khan
  • Sayli Sanjay Kalamkar

As we all know that girls’ education has become the need of the hour but poverty, child marriage, child labor, lack of awareness and other issues prove to be major hurdles in girls education. In particular, the percentage of girls dropping out is higher in secondary and higher secondary schools. We hoped that our campaign will provoke discussion and bring about a change in the plight of these young girls.

Girls aged 15 to 25 years old were invited to submit an essay on the ‘Importance of Girl’s Education’ including success stories of girls who have been given an opportunity to be educated, social or religious hurdles in educating girls, challenges faced while educating girls and solutions for the same, and more…

The competition was free to enter, each essay had to be between 800 and 1000 words and could be written in Marathi, Hindi or English language.

Scholarships prizes for computer courses and other education expenses were awarded to the winners at our #withMalala closing event on 15 June.
