Students Stand #withMalala is a part of the Malala Fund’s year-long Stand #withMalala campaign, which launched with the release of He Named Me Malala in October 2015. Students Stand #withMalala (SSWM) is a collaboration between Participant Media and the Malala Fund. The goal of SSWM is to enable young people and advocates globally to see the film for free in theaters and at screening events, with the intention of galvanizing the next generation of change agents to raise their voices for all girls’ right to 12 years of free, safe and quality education.

Despite the immense progress that has been made in the last 15 years with nearly universalising primary education, the state of secondary education in India, particularly for girls remains troublesome. Last year, Snehalaya teamed up with SSWM to add their voice to Malala's and address this through screenings of ‘He Named Me Malala' to several thousand beneficiaries in Mumbai and across India.

In our home district of Ahmednagar, there is much need to advocate for girls’  education amongst Dalit, tribal and nomadic communities, as well as Muslim groups and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds. There is heavy human trafficking in the region and high demand for commercial sex. Sadly, young girls are often kept out of school in order to support low-income families.

With the support of SSWM, we hope to reach out to over 27,000 high risk young people across Ahmednagar through a targeted three month roadshow programme of documentary screenings, radio programmes, public debate and awareness days, and help them gain access to better futures through equal education.
