World Cup Fever

Cricket fever has hit Snehalaya as India rises up the table in the ICC Cricket World Cup. As a curtain-raiser to the competition’s first India-Pakistan match and in tribute to our national team we are hosting our own Snehalaya cricket championship this Sunday. The Raosaheb Dushing Memorial Cup, named after our long-standing board member who tragically died last week, will see four teams made up of our staff and beneficiaries battle for the coveted title at our Rehab Center over three matches.

Taking place the day before the new academic year starts, the match will also be a fundraiser to support students going into their 10th standard for their final innings at school. We are asking supporters to contribute towards 25 students from our Rehab Center and Balbhavan, some of who will be taking to the pitch, in this vital year for them.

You can show your support by donating online at https://letzchange.org/nonprofits/snehalaya

  • Rs 10,000 will pay for one child for one full year in 10th std

  • Rs 1000 will pay for one child’s uniform

  • Rs 500 will pay for start-up school materials, eg stationary, schoolbag, notebooks, etc

The match coincides with Letzchange’s India Giving Cup https://givingcup.letzchange.org/ which is awarding up to 20% match-funding to NGOs during the World Cup and are asking donors to donate at https://letzchange.org/nonprofits/snehalaya on 16 June to maximise our chances of winning the bonus. The basic bonus is 10% match-funding but if India beats Pakistan then this will be doubled to 20%.

We are also looking for sponsors for our four teams (MIDC staff, City staff, Balbhavan students, Rehab Center students) and prizes such as Man of the Match. If you are interested in putting your name to one of our teams or prizes please email fundraising@snehalaya.org.

We will be sharing updates in the lead up to competition on our facebook, instagram and Twitter channels and will be doing live updates throughout the day. We will also be screening the India-Pakistan game after our own cricket final.

If you would like to attend the competition, more information or to offer your support in another way please contact fundraising@snehalaya.org.
