"I plan to be a hotel manager in London"

akash

rehabilitation center

Sixteen year old Akash was 11 when our Childline team found him and his older brother living alone in one of our district's red light area after their sex worker mother had gone missing presumed dead. With no other family they could tell us about we brought them both to Snehalaya and they are very close to one another.

Akash has just started studying in 10th Standard class in our Snehalaya English Medium School, he is a good student and speaks very good English and is studying hard for his SSC exams. He likes playing chess and once hoped to make a career out of it but now he dreams of studying hotel management and travelling the world. He is a natural leader and the other boys living in his dormitory look up to him and he’s a really good influence on them. He has taken on the role since his older brother left to take up a carpentry course in the south of our state.

He is also very artistic and has worked in our Earth Studio, a handicrafts studio where our children design and make jewellery, work with clay and stitch bags and clothing and he is always looking for and embracing new creative designs. He’s also a brilliant dancer and often choreographs and joins in with group dances and dramas.
