Indian family system and culture is known for the emotional and physical support that it provides to its extended members. However, many a times it fails to respond to the needs of children and women in difficult circumstance like destitutes, ex-prisoners, victims of sexual abuse, including those trafficked and rescued from brothels, those who have been rendered homeless due to natural calamities like flood and earthquake, etc. Very limited State protection is available for this section of the society. These vulnarable children and women most likely end up as beggars or prostitutes for their survival and maintenance of their dependents.
Snehalaya's Rehabilitation center was setup with a vision to address the specific needs of this vulnerable group of children and women, through a home-based holistic and integrated approach.
Snehalaya’s Rehabilitation centre provides a home, hope and future for more than 350 children and women. The inmates are not only provided with shelter, food, education, recreation, vocational training, most importantly - love and affection. The beneficires include rescued minors from the flesh trade, children of sex workers, HIV infected children, abandoned orphans and other neglected sindividuals of the society. Snehalaya's rehab center is located in the serene environment of a 7 acre plot in MIDC area of Ahmednagar.
The women and children, in view of their disadvantaged situation, are cared for in a loving environment with a long term commitment of rehabilitation ranging anywhere between 10-18 years. Typically an inmate will be cared for, from their kindergarten years till he/ she grows up to become an independent citizen, employed and comfortably settled in life.
Snehalaya Rehabilitates
1. Rescued child labourers, street children, abused children and women in need of protection
2. The victims of commercial sexual exploitation, trafficking and flesh trade

There are 4 sections in the rehabilitation center.
* Shenha Asha for HIV positive children

* Sneha Aadhar for rescued female victims and girls above 18 yrs
* Bharat Mata Kendra for rehabilitated single women who have found an employment
Bharatmata Kendra is a group home for girls and women who are taking vocational courses, like nursing diploma, fashion designing, etc. and are employed. Bharatmata Kendra is in the heart of the city with easy access to work places and educational institutions. Currently, 18 girls/women are residing at this center.
Giving Back to the Society
Snehalaya is cautious that our shelter homes should not create welfare addicts. We strive to make our inmates aware of not only their rights, but also about their duties to repay the society which has helped them in time of need.
Rehabilated sex workers have donated their one day's earnings at the time of Mumbai riots, Kargil war, tsunami, earth quake in Gujrath, cyclone in Orissa and on other similar occasions with a single appeal from Snehalaya.
Past inmates of Snehalaya have formed an N.G.O. called 'Anam Prem' - a vocational training center for the blind students. More than 40 blinds students are beneficiaries of the center.
